GATE 2023 Eligibility:
The candidates have to meet the eligibility criteria set by the authorities to appear in the exam. It is advisable to the candidates to check the criteria before registering on the website for the exam. Note that, one candidate can apply for one paper only. The candidates also have to meet the educational qualification to be eligible for the exam.
Note: There is a change in eligibility for GATE 2023. Candidate studying in 3rd year of his/her graduation can also apply.
Highlights of GATE 2023 Eligibility:
- There is no minimum or maximum age limit prescribed to appear for the examination.
- GATE eligibility criteria 2023 consists of nationality, academic qualifications and age limit criteria.
- There is no limit on the number of attempts to appear or apply for GATE 2023

Eligibility for B.E./B.Tech/B.Pharm. Students
Passed a Bachelor degree (4 years after 10+2 or 3-years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology) in Engineering/ Technology or currently in the final year of the degree.
Eligibility for B.Arch Students
Passed a 5-years Bachelor degree in Architecture or currently in the final year of the degree.
Eligibility for B.Sc. (Research) Students
Passed a Bachelor's degree in Science (Post-Diploma/ 4-years after 10+2) or currently appearing (4th year) of degree.
Eligibility for Pharm. D.
Passed 10+2 and 6 years degree program, consisting of internship or residency training, during third year onwards
Eligibility for MBBS
Degree holders of M.B.B.S. and those who are in the 5th/6th/7th semester or higher semester of such program.
Eligibility for M.Sc., MA, MCA Students
Passed a Master’s degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent or currently appearing in the final year.
Integrated M.E./M.Tech (Post B.Sc.) Post-B.Sc.
Passed a 4years Integrated Master’s degree programs in Engineering/Technology or are appearing in the 2nd/3rd/4th year are also eligible.
Eligibility for M.E./M.Tech. or Dual Degree (after Diploma or 10+2)
Passed a 5years Integrated Master’s degree program or Dual Degree program in Engineering /Technology or currently appearing in the 4th or 5th year.
Eligibility for B.Sc. / B.A. / B.Com
Passed Bachelor degree in any branch of Science / Arts / Commerce (3 years program)
Eligibility for Integrated M.Sc. Integrated B.S./M.S.
Passed Integrated M.Sc. or 5years Integrated B.S.- M.S. program or currently appearing in the final year.
Eligibility for Students having Degree from Professional Society Examination (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch)
Passed a B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch. or equivalent examinations, of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India)
Completed Section A or equivalent of such professional courses
Note- Professional Certificate/ Provisional Certificate/ Course Completion/ Membership Certificate issued by the Society or Institute Copy of Mark sheet for Section “A”.
GATE Eligibility for International Applicants
GATE 2023 enables candidates from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates to seek admissions to M.Tech or PhD courses in various IITs and IISc Bangalore. The all-India exam will be conducted in the mentioned countries for applicants from these nationalities. International candidates are required to satisfy the following GATE Eligibility Criteria:

Completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Master’s Degree in a relevant Science Subject.

Appearing for the final year of the degree course are also eligible.
GATE Eligibility for Candidates Having Backlog:
Candidates who have backlogs (arrears/ failed subjects) in any paper of the qualifying degree or have appeared in the final year/ semester examination in 2022 should do the following either

Submit a copy of any one of the marks sheets of the final year or
-
Have to obtain a declaration from their Principal along with the signature and seal beforehand and upload the same during the online submission of the application form
Important Notes:

If a candidate has passed any one of the qualifying examinations as given above or earlier then such candidates have to submit the course completion certificate/degree certificate/membership certificate/professional certificate and provisional certificate issued by the society or institute.

If any candidate is expected to complete any one of the qualifying degrees in 2022 or later as given above then such candidate has to submit a certificate from the Principal or a copy of marks card for section A of AMIE.
Certificate from Principal: Candidates who have to submit a certificate from their college Principal have to obtain one from his/her institution beforehand and upload the same during the online submission of the application form.

What is GATE Eligibility Certificate?
It is a final year mark sheet/Certificate from HOD/Institute. The document should be a scanned copy of the degree or provisional certificate in pdf format. The size should not exceed 300KB while uploading the document while filling the GATE Application Form.
In case a candidate has not received the degree or provisional certificate from the university/institute then a Certificate from Principle (for use as the eligibility certificate only for the final year or backlog candidates) can be uploaded. The minimum size of the eligibility certificate is 10KB.
Qualifying for the GATE 2023 examination is mandatory for M.Tech admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. As no counselling is held through GATE thus applicants will have to apply separately where they wish to take admissions. For M.Tech admission in IITs, register through COAP and for admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs, register through Centralized Counselling – CCMT.
