Interior space and furniture designers are engaged in the construction or redesign of indoor space, including modifications, decor, furnishings, lighting and colour schemes, designers that use a wide range of innovative fabrics and technologies to produce furniture designs that meet practical and aesthetic requirements. One may work in various industrial, recreational or domestic environments. The work blends the effective and practical usage of space with an appreciation of aesthetics. Some designers, especially on the global market, are concerned solely with the look and not with the construction of the interior.

Responsibilities

  • Know the requirements of customers and the needs of building consumers to create conceptual ideas and final briefs 
  • Allow supplies and expenses in accordance with schedules and agree to contractor fees 
  • Conduct design documents on projects 
  • Study and collect information and images on the project 
  • Design furniture that has aesthetic appeal, satisfies practical criteria and is creative 
  • Design a variety of furniture and utility items for interiors, houses, offices, hotels, restaurants, aircraft, cars, etc. 
  • Look for groundbreaking trends and play with new ideas, styles and goods.

Eligibility criteria

Interior designer

  • Candidates are entitled to qualify for an interior design course if they have passed Class 12 on a recognised board. Most colleges have requirements that students must have studied Mathematics and Physics as a full-time course or as an additional subject in their Class 12 in order to apply for admission to an interior design course.

Furniture designer

  • Most prominent Architecture Colleges allow students to join in their admission process only if they have finished their schooling through a recognised board of directors. Design graduates are favoured to follow such a course at the postgraduate level, although students from other courses/streams can also apply.
