How Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Has Become The Hub For Public Welfare Courses?

In 1936, J.R.D Tata established The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai. The institution was initially named Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work and later in 1944, this was turned into the 'Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). It got the deemed-to-be-university tag in 1964. 

TISS offers various PG, doctoral, integrated, certificate, and online in Social Work, Rural Development and other similar fields in regular as well as distance learning (ODL) mode. The Institute focuses on Public Welfare and Community Development.

TISS Mumbai has received the UGC approval and has been accredited by NAAC “A” Grade. TISS Mumbai has spread its wings hosting 12 schools, 6 Independent centers, along 3 resource centers.

Admission:

There is a number of diploma, postgraduate and doctoral courses in various streams in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. TISS Mumbai selects students on the basis of the marks scored in the TISS NET examination followed by a pre-interview test and personal interview round. The candidates, who are interested to take admission in doctoral courses, will have to go through the RAT examination.

TISS Mumbai Courses 

TISS Mumbai offers an MA course of two years duration in almost 80 domains and the Ph.D. course in eight domains like Applied Psychology, Development Studies, Public Health, Social Work, Education, Disaster Studies, Management, and Labor Studies, Habitat Studies, and Social Sciences.
Basically, TISS Mumbai is famous for postgraduate programs like MA, MSc, and LLM. Interested students who wish to be a part of this TISS, Mumbai, need to qualify TISSNET exam and a minimum of 55% in graduation. The application process is online and the application fees can be paid through Debit card/Net Banking/Demand Draft.

Scholarship

Under the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme, SC and ST students of Top Class Education can avail scholarships from govt. According to the law, three students from the SC community and five students from the ST community will be awarded a laptop worth Rs. 45,000/- and Rs. 3000/- each year for books.

The SPO has provision to facilitate 128 SC students, 94 ST students, 168 OBC (NC) students, 4 from PWD, and 16 from the Minority categories. These students are also exempted from submitting all fees including Dining Hall and Hostel charges for both the academic years.

Placement:

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai has a Placement Cell that offers good job options to its students. TISS Mumbai Placement Cell organizes various training programs in order to train and upgrade the interpersonal skills, and soft skills of the students, technical skills, and focuses on the overall Personality Development, LRDI (Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation), Training on Quantitative Aptitude and Training on Verbal Ability of the students and expand their horizon.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai placement cell organizes pre-placement talk which is a two-way communication where students get an insight about the company. The participating companies conduct the written test to select good candidates. The candidates who qualify for the written test will be invited to the next round that is the Group Discussion where they share their views and opinions collectively and voice their thoughts followed by a Personal Interview round. This is the final round and candidates qualifying for the interview are offered jobs. TISS Mumbai has a history that shows a really good placement record every year.
