Following toppers blindly

Not all students are the same. Many students read about the strategies that toppers used to study for the ESE exam. These motivate them and also guide them about which strategies they can use to get better marks. While you may try a same approach, but using the same strategy like the topper may not have the same result for you. You are a different person from the topper. Hence your mental capacity, learning ability is different. Hence, it is advisable that you do not blindly follow anyone. Rather adopt the good points from their preparation and make your own exam strategy.

Not aware of the syllabus

It is not a good thing that you have started the preparation for the exam and you are not aware of the syllabus. Visit the UPSC official website and look at the ESE 2021 exam syllabus. Keeping a note of the syllabus will be beneficial as you will be aware of the topics that you need to study. This will prevent you from wasting time reading about topics that is not relevant for the exam.

Clear your concepts

If you are not clear about the concepts, then reading multiple books during the preparation will only lead to a wastage of time and energy. Hence, one should clear their concepts first. Read a book, and then take notes from that book. Once you have finished it, and then go to the next book.

Selecting wrong training institute for ESE 2021 preparation

If you plan to join a training institute to prepare for ESE 2021 exam, make sure you enquire about the institute before enrolling there. Go through their course manual, go to the institute physically and check reviews and testimonials of students and parents. Make sure that the institute has all the necessary things required to train you well for the exam. You can also look for scholarship programs so that the coaching fees do not burn a hole in the pocket.

Not giving enough importance to the GS paper

Paper 1 of the preliminary examination consists of General Studies and Engineering Aptitude. This constitutes 200 marks. One will have to score a minimum of 50 percent marks to clear the exam. GS is an important part of the syllabus and hence one must pay great importance to it when you are preparing for ESE 2021. It often becomes a deciding factor during the preliminary exams.

Bad time management

Every second matter before an exam. Hence manage the time well. Go through the syllabus and make the preparation accordingly. Pay more attention to the core subjects and on those topics which have come in the exams in the previous years. Going through the papers of the previous years is also a good idea. Do not waste time revising unimportant topics as that will only waste your time.

Lack of revision and practice

Revise what you have studied from time to time so that you know how much you have grasped about the matter. Only after revising it regularly, your brain will be able to understand that this is important for retention.
Practicing the questions that came in the previous years is also a good way of judging your capabilities before the exam. In this way you will know the areas in which you are lagging behind and the areas where you need to put in more effort.

Be punctual

Do not keep topics for studying at a later time. Read daily so that you can cover every topic. Be punctual with the classes, solving the test papers, study hours and revision. Do not keep these things for tomorrow. Rather do it today and be well prepared for the exam.

Take care of your health

Like any other exam, ESE 2021 can also be stressful for students. Hence during this time, avoid consuming street foods, oily dishes, and do not skip meals. Eat healthy food, drink lots of water and exercise to keep you physically and mentally fit before the exam.
