The new UGC (University Grants Commission) guidelines for non-technical stream teachers have been issued to assist teachers. It is time to change the methods of teaching with the new education policy that has been issued. To establish guidelines and introduce an induction and mentorship plan for teachers in the non-technical stream (NIIMT) a committee has been set up by the UGC. This mentorship will be the requirement for the teachers who have been in practice for a decade.
This mentorship is to maximize or improve student outcomes/achievements where the basic motive of this teacher mentorship is to equip them with a wide variety of arrangements and skills. A draft of UGC guidance has already been prepared by the Committee (NIIMT) for the admission, integration, supervision, and mentorship of teachers in the non-technical stream. The Commission had sought feedback from interested parties for proposals on the draft guidelines by 6 February 2021.
It is essential here to note that one of the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is to create a mentorship system for distinguished, experienced, and retired faculties. As per the proposals, a National Mentoring Mission will be created with a huge number of outstanding senior/retired faculties, including those with the ability to teach in Indian languages and willing to offer long and short-term professional support/ mentoring terms in college.
Having said that, the emphasis will be on the integration cum application and usage of the technology to enhance the different facets of education that will be adopted and supported. In addition that, these initiatives are transparently and rigorously checked in the required contexts before being extended. The National Educational Technologies Forum (NETF) is an autonomous agency that is a forum for the free exchange of ideas on the usage of technology to facilitate evaluation, learning, assessment, planning, preparation, management, etc., is being established for both higher education institutions and schools to improvise education system.
