IT Sector Hiring: Key Skills You Need

Information Technology has contributed impressively in the modern days. It has benefited the country’s GDP along with all other sectors of industry. IT Sector professionals work on maintenance of computer hardware and software for various industrial and individual applications. They are much sought for their expertise and experience. As companies struggle to adapt themselves to the new technologies, they are constantly looking to hire the top tech talents.

According to reports, IT Field hiring has witnessed a sequential growth in the sequential growth in hiring since lockdown in 2020, witnessing 39 percent growth in job postings in January compared to the previous month. Metro cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, etc. have seen major growth in the job posting accounting for more than 50 percent of jobs in the sector in January 2021.

 

What are the job opportunities in IT Sector?

IT sectors have done an extraordinary job in recovering the job loss despite the pandemic. The recruiting person in the IT Sectors looks for two main qualifications among the applicants; bachelor’s degree either in information technology or in computer science. Other bachelor’s degrees including Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Engineering are also accepted by hiring companies. 

With the change in technology, career scopes also evolve with it. Noted below is a list of some high demand jobs in technology in the modern days:

  • Programming: Programming includes creating software and applications with the use of programming languages like Javascript, Python, and C++. It also authorizes the accuracy of the code and algorithms to ensure smooth functioning.

Salary: The average annual salary of a programmer or software engineer with 0-5 years of work experience is around Rs. 4.3 to 7.35 lakhs.

  • Graphic design: It's a craft-based work, which creates visual content through images or posters for mobile apps, articles contents, etc. Top tolls for graphic designers are Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign.

Salary: Graphic designers get paid Rs. 3.2 to 6 lakhs, annually (0-5 years of work experience).

  • Artificial Intelligence(AI): Artificial Intelligence is slowly setting its pace in our lives. It emphasizes the development of intelligence in machines, thinking and working like humans. Face detection and recognition, Siri, etc. are the best examples in this domain.

Salary: With an average work experience of 5 years, AI professionals usually have an annual salary of around Rs. 8 to 9 lakhs.

  • Mobile App Development: Mobile App Developers are in high demand as the world has been very much interested in smartphone use. Companies have also become equally interested in easing smartphone use.

Salary: The average salary for mobile app development jobs (0-3 years of work experience), is around Rs. 3.5 to 6.10 lakhs per annum.

  • Web Content Management: It is the process of creating and publishing them in a web content management system like WordPress or Drupal.

Salary: Content writers and Managers can earn an annual salary of Rs. 3.00 to 10 lakhs (0-5 years of work experience).

  • Project management: Project managers are directed to plan, organize, execute, and complete a specific project.

Salary: Project Managers with 2-7 years of work experience can earn up to Rs. 3.5 to 10 lakhs, annually.

  • SEO and SEM: As people are more often used to Google search almost everything, companies are looking for SEO and SEM management can do wonders in the digital marketing teams. Both SEO and SEM techniques will produce a stronger digital marketing campaign with stronger performance and noticeable results. 

Salary: Freshers in SEO and SEM usually gets a salary range of Rs. 2 lakhs per annum. However, it can go up to 10 lakhs per annum with 3 to 7 years of experience.

  • Cybersecurity: Providing Cyber Security, Creating and maintaining anti-virus and anti-hacking software, is another opportunity for the aspirants who want to work in the IT sector.

Salary: Cybersecurity jobs can provide an average salary of the salary of Rs. 4.5 to 8 lakhs per annum to people with work experience of 2 to 6 years.

  • Cloud computing: Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources. It usually manages the cloud systems for feasible operations in a company. Amazon Web Series and Microsoft Azure are the two best examples in this domain.

Salary: Average salary of cloud computing jobs can be 4.20 to 12 lakh per annum, for people with experience of 2-7 years.

  • Augmented reality (AR): It is a most challenging and enhanced version of the real physical world. It is a modern time technology that lets people view digital content ( image, text, etc.) over real-life scenes. Pokemon Go, a viral game in the year 2016, the game is evidence that AR has set its pace in modern times.

Salary: In AR/VR jobs, one can attain a salary of Rs. 5 to 8 lakhs per annum, with 1-4 years of experience

What are the key skills in demand nowadays?

Covid-19 has defined a new era for the increased adoption of digitization, across the globe. The pandemic has made the companies realize the need to have professionals with advanced skills and experience. Here is the list of few key skills which in top demand these days:

  • Digital Skills are the most sought employable skills and companies prefer those candidates who are skilled in web technologies, cybersecurity, and social media. Education sectors have also seen an expanding adoption of digitization. Other sectors have also adopted the digitalization strategy, to cope up with the current economy.
  • Proficiency in Technology: Technologies have changed from basic mechanization to more complex technologies today. The job opportunities have also evolved with it. This year saw the much-needed push for the adoption of technologies like automation and robotics. Many companies and organizations have ensured that these technologies strengthened their domestic capabilities and also ensure high productivity and help maintain cost efficiency. Hence there is a need to have some basic knowledge of technical skills like robotics, IoT, mechatronics, data architect, networking, and software coders for designing the platforms.
  • Goal Orientation is very much essential for the candidates to do their job well. They must find motivation towards their work, to expertise in their job role. 
  • Analytical Skills involve future planning and decision making which are essentials in all functions from financial planning, product development, customer satisfaction, etc.
  • Multitasking Skills are very much effective. Candidates need to showcase some of their soft skills to be stay relevant and be work-ready. 
  • Social & Communication Skills: The communication skills that employers want candidates to have are clarity in thoughts, communication, and transparency. Organizations also look for good social skills as they encourage group and peer-to-peer learning. Employers prefer amiable people which will have flexibility in the teamwork.

With the change in technologies, companies are widely looking for candidates who can develop some extraordinary skills in both technical and business insight. Therefore the aspirants need to mention some special skills in their resumes that make them unique.

The most important thing that the companies want in employers is the continued learning approach. Recruiting companies are constantly looking for candidates who are curious, passionate, and constantly adaptive to new technologies. The candidate needs to have a growth mindset, which reflects a person’s risk-taking ability, innovation, creativity, and willingness to learn.
