What Makes UPES (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies)Unique?

There are nearly 789 Universities in India with approximately 48,647 Institutions. It has never been an easy task for any university to show their uniqueness among others because the level of the educational competition is in pick in recent times. But UPES, Dehradun offers many such unique features that attracts nearly all the students as well as their parents. This article mentions all the points which will make you think about UPES before joining any other Institutions.

About UPES, Uttrakhand:

The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) is one of the public-private university in India which was established in 2003. The University is famous for its business and legal studies and other courses like Engineering, Business, Law, Design Studies, Computer Science, Health Science, etc provided by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Uttarakhand are also very impressive. The Courses provided by the University are given in details below-

1. School of Engineering:

In the UPES school of engineering UG, PG and Ph.D. programs are available at an affordable cost. The candidates can join any of the given courses. Nearly all branches of engineering are provided by the UPES. They are like as follows :-

i. Department of Petroleum Engineering and Earth Sciences

ii. Department of Chemical Engineering

iii. Department of Mechanical Engineering

iv. Department of Electrical Engineering

v. Department of Aerospace Engineering

vi. Department of Nuclear Science Technology

vii. Department of Health, Safety, and Environment

viii. Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering

2. School of Business:

The UPES School of Business is located in Kandoli and offers BBA, MBA and Ph.D. programs in the field of Oil and Gas, Energy Trading, Power aviation, Port, Supply Chain and Logistics, Agri-Business, Tourism and Hospitality, Marketing, Finance, Human resources, etc. 

3. School of Law:

UPES, Dehradun also provides the Law courses in its school of Law. It offers basic law courses like Corporate Law, taxation Laws, Intellectual property, Right and cyber law, etc.

4. School of Design Studies:

The UPES University provides both UG and PG courses in the field of design. It provides B.Des. and M.Des. in Transportation Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, Interaction Design.

5. School of Computer Science:

Computer Science is a vast technology study. There are several courses like Cloud Computing and Virtualisation Technologies, Cyber Security and Forensics, Business Analytics and Optimization, Open Source and Open Standards, Mainframe Technology, Oil and Gas Informatics, Telecom Informatics,  E-commerce, Retail and Automation, IT Infrastructure, Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance, IT Security and Cyber Forensics, Graphics and Gaming, Mobile Application Development, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Smart Cities, Big Data, DevOps, Machine Learning, etc includes in the field of computer science that are provided by the University.

6. School of Health Science:

The School of Health Science is one of the employment generating courses. The school provides courses like Bachelor in Pharmacy, B.Sc. in Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Diploma in Pharmacy, BBA in Hospital & Healthcare Management.

The Unique Features of UPES, Dehradun 

1. India's 1st public-private University:

UPES was established in 2003 by an act of the state of Uttarakhand and is India's first public-private university. The University is a non-profit entity managed by the Hydrocarbons Education & Research Society. The term public-private university means the honors of the university get a donation from the many both government and private authorities. In this University, the colleges give better facilities and they provide scholarships to the deserved candidates.

2. UPES is  the only University in India for Petroleum and Energy Studies:

There are lots of engineering streams present in India but whats makes UPES unique is its Btech in Petroleum and Energy studies. Petroleum is a necessary element in our daily life and plays a major role in World's Trade. The study of energy and petroleum studies is having a bright future ahead and UPES is the only university that can provide this course.

3. Location of UPES:

The beauty of nature is blessed upon UPES. . The campus UPES is located at Dehradun, the capital of Uttrakhand which is near to the Mussoorie one of the famous places in Jammu and Kashmir. It is also near the Hindu holy cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh along with the Himalayan pilgrimage circuit of Char Dham, the natural beauty of this place is breath-taking. This wonderful place helps students to calm their minds.

4. The cultural activities in UPES make it delightful: 

The cultural activities that takes place at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun refreshes the students and develops unity among the students. UPES, Dehradun organizes cultural programs several times in a year.  The most famous festivals are given below-

i. Jigyasa:

The Jigyasa organized by the UPES chapter of FIPI. The festival of the oil and gas industry where the students give presentations and lectures by visiting professionals. They share the knowledge and the future plane regarding petroleum and energy. The Jigyasa comes with a unique Idea of innovation.

ii. Uurja:

Its most famous cultural programs takes place on the UPES campus in the month of  October every year. The Uurja function takes place for 2 days. It is a full of entertainment programs with sports. The most attractive things in the function are the games and concerts. Celebrities are invited to the cultural programs to entertain the students.

iii. Ignite:

The first techno-legal-management festival in India. It was recently celebrated in the month of February.  

iv. UPES SPE Festival:

This festival is being celebrated since 2010 which is  India's largest student-organized petroleum engineering fest under the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Other activities include Gems Instrublitz, an instrumental competition organized by the UPES GEMS team, and Kalakriti, a chart painting competition organized to spread awareness.

5. Some Achievements by the UPES, Dehradun:

To measure the potentiality of a university the awards and the honors play an important role. There are lots of awards and honors achieved by The University of petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) .Some of that are given below-

i. The only GRIHA-rated university in India.GRIHA (National Green Building Rating System), a four-star rating awarded to UPES campus by the President of India

iii.‘Best University for Placements and Employability’, Times Now National Education Excellence Award 2018

iv. Ranked amongst the world's top 30 universities for oil, gas and petroleum engineering by CEO World magazine (USA), 2017.
