There is a huge difference when you pursue an engineering degree from an engineering college and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). The IITs have a different standard that they maintain. The engineers who pass out from the IITs are held in high esteem by the recruiters and are also offered higher packages. IITs have great world ranking worldwide. They feature in the top 250-500 universities due to their standard and performance. So why do students prefer IITs over the other engineering colleges? Read on to know more about this.

Students enhance themselves after joining IIT

Students who join IITs can enhance their knowledge levels by reading books from the extensive libraries or by taking part in the technical fests or by interacting with their fellow IIT students. These experiences enhance the students and they can gain much from the knowledgeable environment prevalent in the IITs.

Superior to other engineering colleges

The achievements of the IITs are something to boast about and they score over a lot on the engineering colleges. The IITs follow the rules and regulations made by the AICTE. After 1961, the IITs were declared as the institutes of great importance. And from then onwards, these institutes have become the dream of every science stream student. More than 10 lakh students sit for the IIT JEE Mains exam and only 2.5 lakh students get into the IITs. This makes them the most coveted engineering institutions of India. In other words, only one-fourth of the total students sitting for the exam get into the IITs!

Contribution to Indian education in the global scenario

The contribution that the IITs made to the Indian society is enormous. IIT has become a popular brand name in the field of education. It evokes respect and honour for India worldwide. The students can emulate the high pedigree level during their studies at IITs.

World class faculty

The high-class faculty and the teaching staffs ensure that the students get the best education. This uplifts their education standard and this sets them apart from the students from other engineering colleges. The majority of the faculties in the IITs are either alumni of IIT or have studied their Masters and done their PhDs in eminent universities in India or abroad.

Change in lifestyle after passing out from IIT

After the student passes out from IIT, there is a great change to the lifestyle of the student. The engineers who pass out from IITs have a different pedigree level. Hence, the brand value of the IITs becomes the brand value of the student.
The alumni network of IIT is equally impressive. To be a part of the alumni network is a great thing in itself.

Salary and other perks

The brand value of passing out from an IIT is immense. While students from other engineering colleges get packages in lakhs, the pass outs from IITs get offered packages in crores. Some of the great entrepreneurs of the times have passed out from IITs. They are either offered positions in India or even abroad. They are revered and respected in whatever company they work.

Hence, these are some of the reasons why students prefer IITs over other engineering colleges.

Popular student entrepreneurs of IITs: Narayan Murthy (Infosys), Sachin Bansal (Flipkart), Byju Raveendran (BYJU’s), Ashish Shah (Pepperfry), and so on.

Salary packages at IITs: Highest package offered is 1 crore. On an average, in top rated IITs, the annual package offered is 30-70 lakhs.
