The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2020 on 11 June 2020. This is the Fifth edition of NIRF Ranking 2020. Ramesh Pokhriyal said, "'Ministry of HRD has taken this important initiative of creating a National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), which is being used for past five years for ranking of institutions of higher education in different categories and domains of knowledge and it is indeed a source of encouragement for all of us."
NIRF ranking is based on 5 Parameters:
- Teaching, Learning, and Resources (Ranking Weightage = 0.30)
- Research, Professional Practice, and Collaborative Performance (Ranking Weightage = 0.20)
- Graduation Outcomes (Ranking Weightage = 0.25)
- Outreach (Ranking Weightage = 0.15)
- Perception (Ranking Weightage = 0.10)

IIM Indore has bagged the 7th position in this year's NIRF Ranking. It is the sixth IIM to be established in the year 1996.
