Housing is a field of special significance in India. In our country, the demand for housing projects has been increasing rapidly with time because of rapid urbanization. Housing is the basic need for common people, so proper planning will give them adequate space to cope with the ever-expanding nature of the cities. The Government is also trying to offer affordable housing solutions to its citizens through several plans and projects such as setting up of HUDCO, NHB, HDFC, the emphasis of the UNCHS, and USAID as well as entry of major public and private corporations and multinational organizations, are some of the manifestations that are done by the National Housing Policy.

Generally, the Housing courses deal with the design, planning, and development of several forms of the built environment, such as buildings, houses, physical structures, outdoor spaces, and housing projects. This branch of architecture offers to the necessity of the housing market. Housing courses are not just about designing and constructing a single home, it also deals with tasks such as housing project (medium to large scale) management, urban planning & design, land management, etc.
Housing courses have a bachelor’s degree in architecture with duration of 5 years at the undergraduate level and a master’s degree in architecture with duration of 2 years at the postgraduate level. These courses deal with the subjects such as housing design, urban and rural housing, housing economics, land management, real estate planning, infrastructure development, project management, planning, material management, CAD, housing finance, customer service, etc.
This study program is developed as a platform for preparing graduates to meet the challenges in the housing sector in the irregular developing world, design, and enhance the ability to fulfill space-related necessities for different sections of the society. It also prepares the ability to anticipate future directions in housing and urbanization and deal with the cultural sensitivities for several economic backgrounds and introduce creative solutions for different housing issues in the present scenario.
Eligibility
The basic eligibility criteria for housing courses are,
- Candidates need to score at least 55 percent marks in aggregate at the qualifying examination (50 percent for SC/ST candidates).
- To get admission into a Bachelor’s degree in Planning or Architecture or Municipal Engineering or Architectural Engineering or Building Engineering, candidates need to pass the class 10+2 or class 10 with a diploma degree from a recognized university.
- And those who want to get admission into a Master’s degree in Planning or Architecture or Building engineering, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the relevant field
