The
Indian Institute of Technology Mandi Catalyst, which is the first technology-based incubator in the Himachal Pradesh. The Institute successfully organized the first edition of the
“Himalayan Innovation Challenge” for the relevant startups and the innovators on the 25th - 26th May 2019. The HIC (Himalayan Innovation Challenge) builds solutions for the region solely for the Himalayan. The HIC is an initiative to ignite and bring the spark to the innovative technology-based solutions which are specifically designed to overcome and solve the social and economic problems of the Himalayan region.
Catalyst aims and targets to create an impact on the relevant areas which could bear the importance of the Himalayan region. For more than 120 teams, which range from the individuals to the organizations, who are willing to deliberate, debate and to innovate to this end, have applied to the challenge. The Himalayan Innovation Challenge received the applications for the year 2019, from which over the 30 teams were being shortlisted.
The challenge invited to all of the budding entrepreneurs to join over this exciting journey to build the future. The Director, Prof. Timothy Gonsalves, IIT Mandi, Gonsalves said, “Understand, Compare, Assess, Adopt and Develop, these are the key features required for a startup. I hope all the budding entrepreneurs and the IIT Mandi Catalyst would bring a difference towards the betterment of Himalayan Region.”
The startups and the innovators from across the nation were invited by the Himalayan Innovation Challenge 20129, IIT Mandi Catalyst. The invited startups and innovators from across the country were asked to present their relevant and ideas to the panel of experts, The jury at the competition comprised of the relevant entrepreneurs, the faculty members of the institute and also the other of senior advisors of the industry.
The institute, IIT Mandi Catalyst handpicked to the 15 of the Innovative ideas and this will enable to these innovators as well as the entrepreneurs in the subject prototyping, it is testing and implementing to bring an impact in the Himalayan region.
Deepika Rana, Deputy Director, Department of Industries, Himachal Pradesh, attended to the closing of the ceremony. For the prizes which were sponsored by the HP Center for the Entrepreneurship, Department of the Industries, Himachal Pradesh Government, where the total prize money is to be Rs.1 lakh, which would be distributed as:
- Drone Tech Lab won the First Prize of Rs 50,000
- Go Vidyouth won the Second Prize of Rs 30,000
- Kapum won the Third Prize of Rs 20,000
