Fulfilling the IIT dream without JEE or GATE

28Jan,2020

Students from different institutes can spend the semester at IITGN through this program.
Studying in an IIT is the dream for the thousands of the students, but here only a few are able to make this, as reasons with the tough competition and the limited seats. To host for the non-IIT students on the campus and also for the speech as it would give the taste of the IIT culture, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has been offering to the non-degree program since the last of the one decade.  This program is open at the various levels for the students of Engineering, Sociology, Development Studies and more.

Through this program, the students can also pursue the part-time or full-time course and spend an entire semester at IIGN for the credit or to as the conduct the research, undertake the projects with the faculty and participate in the internships at the institute. “The main objective is to give the chance to the deserving students to be introduced to the IIT systems, which is otherwise not possible for a large number of the students owing to the cut-throat competition in the entrance examinations. Hence the students are here no longer being restricted to the qualification of the JEE or the GATE to learn from the culture of an IIT,” says  Sudhir K Jain, director, IITGN.

Jain says that it will help in changing the entire notion of the IITs being exclusive to the moving towards  “inclusivity and the transparency.”  “It is better than the online programs where there is no direct interaction between the faculty and of the students. This program guides the students to learn without hampering their regular degree as the college give them some of the credit for the courses done at IITGN,” he adds. Students pay their fees for an entire semester at the IITGN and attend their regular classes.

A certificate of the completion is also provided to the students at the end of the semester. Admissions are here open for both of the Semester-1 (August-November) and the other Semester-2 (January-April) for all the courses.
Students registered for the degree in the recognized institute in India or abroad, have also completed at least one year of the college education, and sponsored by that institute to complete the whole academic requirements at  IITGN, can also apply for the admission as the full-time nondegree students. The students, engineers or the scientists of the other institutes, industries or the research labs can also apply for the part-time, non-degree students while pursuing the other opportunities.
