It is a general idea among the Indian students and their guardians that they want their child to pursue science in their undergraduate degrees. However according to a new survey conducted by the All India Survey on Higher Education, it has been found that arts subjects are the most popular. It has been found that about 93. 49 lakh students have enrolled for the different art courses at the undergraduate level. Science and commerce comes in the second and third position after arts.

Now you must be wondering as to how this happened in India where studying science or commerce is given more priority than studying humanities.

However, we have listed some of the reasons why arts have become more popular than science or commerce in India.

More career options

Earlier, the students thought that they could make a good career only if they studied science or commerce. However, with new job options opening up after having studied arts, more and more students are now opting to study different courses in arts. Some of the fields that open up after studying arts are law, animation and multimedia, journalism and mass communication, graphic designer, writer, fashion designer, aviation industry, film director and so on.

Affordability

Studying arts is very pocket friendly for the students. Science is the most costly among the three streams. This option has led to the popularity of arts among the students. Students who want to opt for civil services or law or journalism can easily study arts. This will cost Rs 2-4 lakh. This affordability is a huge factor for the students.

Satisfying creative hunger

Gone are those days when students blindly followed in the footsteps of their older siblings or their peers. Now they want to make a name for themselves and also satisfy their creative thirst. We often hear stories of people quitting their jobs and starting their own business or becoming an author and so on. Students are now choosing arts so that they can do the right thing from the beginning.

Jobs in visual media

Visual media is among the fastest growing employment sector in the country. Having an arts degree helps one a lot. One can become part of this industry and follow their passion at work.

Therefore these are some of the reasons why arts has gained more popularity than science or commerce in India.
