There are some skills that one needs to possess before joining the B-schools. Having these skills is found to be of much help for the students in understanding the subjects taught and also in dealing better with the course. So if you are planning to pursue an MBA or any other business degree, then introspect whether you have these important skills before taking the plunge.
Ability to solve problems
Many students confuse problem solving with cracking any aptitude test. However, these two words are very different. Aptitude means the problems solving ability of an individual. If you want to make it big in the managerial field, then you need to know how to find solutions to different problems that you might encounter daily at work.
One needs to have the ability to solve issues and make decisions for the company that will affect whether a particular client will stay or leave the company. This is an important aspect that B-schools look for in candidates they hire.
Good at communication
There is a difference between a good communicator and an effective communicator. Communication simply does not mean whether you are proficient in the English language, but it is about whether the audience can understand what you are trying to say.
You may be trying to communicate a problem to your manager or simply sharing information with your colleague. The accent of an individual will not matter. But how the message has been structured will matter a lot as that will enable the receiver to understand it well.
Managerial aptitude
Having an aura of a manager is very important. The different tests like CAT, XAT, and GMAT will only help you to get into the B-school but the aptitude must be there within you.
How can you develop this aptitude? You can do it by learning the art of making decisions. How to do that? Observe how your boss and the other higher-ups are working in the company. Decision making is something that you can cultivate. There are some who are born with the skills of a manager but for some they can learn this skill with practice and observation.
Clarity in the thoughts
While this might seem clichéd but it is an important factor during an interview. You need to be sure as to why you are sitting in front of the interviewer for deciding your future. Introspect well so that you can understand why you are working hard to sit for the interview and also to pass it.
Be confident
A little bit of confidence can go a long way!! Good amount of self-esteem is necessary and B-schools look for this quality in their prospective candidates. Your confidence will come from good preparation. You have to be fearless and be smart so that you can easily pass the interview.
These are some of the qualities that B-schools look for in candidates.
