How can you become a fashion designer?

By Editorial

Fashion designers bring out the best in our world. Their skill and vision play a significant role in how people look and also contribute to the socio-cultural environment. They love to research patterns in fashion, draw ideas, pick products, and have a hand in all facets of their designs' development. They lead to the production, on an annual basis, of millions, if not billions, of clothing and accessories bought by customers.

Sportswear, maternity wear, outerwear, underwear, formalwear, eyewear, and boots may be part of this. There are also manufacturers of accessories who make ties, scarves, skirts, handbags, and outerwear. They sketch layouts, pick textiles, and patterns. At all tiers of the fashion industry, there are fashion designers, from well-known couturiers, to obscure fashion designers working with ready-to-wear houses, to fashion stylists who could only make subtle improvements in current designs.

The task will involve:

  • Working to establish recommendations (known as a brief)
  • Analysis or forecasting of patterns in materials, shades, and types
  • Template and mood boards (a range of mood-capturing objects, such as images, fabric pieces, and color samples)
  • Creation of fundamental shapes ('blocks') through patterns
  • Estimating materials and production prices
  • Seeking sellers
  • Overseeing the structure of sample textile goods
  • In-house reports to finance managers and merchandisers
