GATE (Graduation Aptitude Test of Engineering) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the IISC (Indian Institute of Science) and 7 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology). Every year the exam is conducted by an IIT in a rotation manner. This year it is the turn of IIT Madras to conduct the exam. Here we are going to discuss some tips for GATE in Mechanical Engineering (ME).
Following are some preparation tips for GATE ME aspirants:
1- Understand the Exam Patterns:
One of the main reasons behind failure is lack of preparation, lack of understanding of the question, etc. Understanding the system and pattern of the exam is must necessary. It is an online exam of 3 hours consisting of 65 questions carrying 100 marks. The questions include both MCQs and numerical answer type questions.
2- Go through the complete syllabus:
Here is the list of subjects that Mechanical Engineering consists of-
I- Engineering Mathematics:
It includes Calculus, differential calculus, Complex Variables, and numerical methods.
II- Applied Mechanics and Design:
It includes Engineering Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, the theory of machine, and Vibration.
III- Fluid Mechanics and Thermal Science:
It includes Fluid Mechanics, Heat transfer, Thermodynamics, and Applications of fluid mechanics.
IV- Materials, Manufacturing, and Industrial Engineering:
This subject includes Engineering Materials, Metrology & inspection, machining, and machine tool operations, inventory control, Production planning & Control and computer integrated manufacturing.
The Mechanical Engineering students have to go through the syllabus properly so that they could cover all the sections before time and grab a high score.

3- Practicing previous year question paper:
The previous year's question paper can play the role of one of the most important guides in the preparation process for GATE. By practicing the previous year's question paper one can grab a basic idea about the question pattern as well as the important subjects to focus on, the new ways of question delivery, difficulty level, and the recent trend.
4- Mock Test is a must:
The mock test is the resemblance of the particular exam paper. It will help in creating a basic idea about the pattern of questions. The students must go for the mock test which will definitely help in achieving good scores as it helps in maintaining time management, discover the difficult and important areas so that the candidate can work on them and heal the lacks before the exam.
5- Starting preparation earlier:
Students can start their preparation from 2nd year also but 3rd year is considered as the most perfect time to starts the preparation as the syllabus for the GATE is almost covered at that time in the college.

6- A proper study plan with revision:
Before jumping into the preparation process, the candidate must have prepared a perfect study plan so that he/she can proceed through the plan which will help in cracking a high score in GATE. According to the study plan, each subject should get proper and individual time for practice. The difficult one must be given a special time by the candidate. The study plan must include revising section so that the aspirant can go through all the subjects once again to remind all the previous practices. A proper study plan will help in covering the syllabus before time, strengthen the weak area & help in revising all the sections again.
These are the aspects one should keep in mind if they are preparing themselves for GATE ME (Mechanical Engineering) and aim to get admission into their targeted colleges/institutes in their favorite courses by obtaining a high score. We have tried here to pull out the major preparation strategy for sure short success.
