No Extra Attempts in IAS 2021: Pros and Cons

06Feb,2021
By Editorial

The Supreme Court of India heard the petition filed by IAS aspirants for an extra attempt in the IAS exam 2021 where the central government has refused to offer any extra attempts to the civil service aspirants or IAS 2021 aspirants who had their last attempt in the civil services exam in the year 2020 but missed the exam due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis as per the notification of the civil services examination or IAS 2021 that released weeks before.

And now the case/ matter is adjourned to 05 Feb 2021, i.e. today and the Government is barred from issuing the UPSC IAS 2021 notification until the matter is decided by the SC.

But if there would be no extra attempts in IAS 2021 then the following will be the consequences (pros and cons):

Pros:

  • f there is no extra attempt then candidates would not amount to be extending differential treatment for similarly placed candidates at the examination.
  • There would not be any Cascading Effect, which might be detrimental to the overall functioning and level playing field necessary for a public examination system by creating a ground for the challenge by candidates, who have already appeared for the exam on Oct 2020.

Cons:

  • The one-time relaxation could have benefited over 3,300 students without even increasing the age-limit.
  • Candidates’ preparation was hampered due to the stress caused by the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic those who were unable to give exams.
