Top career options after having a Mathematics Degree

Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity & arrangement. Math is all around us in everything we do. The role of Mathematics is one of the important subject still we continue study, but when it comes to build a career, Mathematics act as a great career building job optional.

 

 

Most of the job involves Math to some extent as Math skills are clearly important in many careers like technology, science, & engineering. That’s why the kind of job one can get with a Math degree are so diverse.

 

Eligibility:

The 1st step towards building a career in Mathematics is doing a degree course in this subject as major after completing 10+2 with Chemistry, Physics, mathematics as main subjects.. It is called the bachelor’s degree.

And the next step is a master's degree course in the particular subject which is also called post graduate degree.

Here are some job options for building a career in Mathematics after completing graduation or post-graduation degree:

 

Mathematician

This is one of the most obvious job option for the one who want a career in Mathematics. Solving problems through numerical analysis is something that the Mathematician have to deal with and the demand of Mathematician is high as 33% growth in this field is expected within 2016 to 2026. A Mathematician’s job is to search new theories, Develop Mathematical models, analyzing data to solve business problems.

Cryptographer

It is all about keeping sensitive data safe from hackers and making & breaking codes. The focus is on encoding signals for cable companies or encrypting transactions for final institution. With complete graduation & some computer classes, one can step into this career.

Economist

As Mathematical models and statistical analysis is used to understand & explain the economy trend, so candidates with a bachelor’s degree in math can make their career in the economic field

Investment Analyst

As an investment Analyst must have the ability to calculate the value of different investments and written reports. So a bachelor degree in Math can lead you to be an analyst. To be successful in this field, one must be able to calculate the value of different investments and communicate the findings in written reports.

Actuary

Actuaries deals with calculating & managing risk for insurance companies by using the knowledge of Mathematics & statistics. This job is all about how an event occurs, expenses, policies that will minimize the risk of that event. Actuary in India typically works in the field of Life Insurance, General Insurance, Health Insurance, Consultants, Government, Academics, Risk management, etc. Both bachelor’s and master’s degree students are eligible for this post.

Statistician

Mathematicians & Statistical techniques are used by the statisticians to collect data, analyze them to identify trends and solve problems. They could work for government agencies, research institute, insurance firms, Pharmaceutical companies or even sports organization. The minimum eligibility is a master degree in Mathematics where a bachelor’s degree can also be considered in some of the entry level jobs.

Mathematics teacher/lecture

One can pursue a career in teaching Math either at the secondary level or college level if he/she is interested in making Math understandable to students of different ages and abilities. A master degree (M.Phil & PG.D for better placement) is required but a bachelor degree holder can go for a teaching career in a private school/college also.

(Average salary – 5 to 8 lakhs)

 

Data Analyst

The job of a data analyst is to collect, processing and verifying data. Sometimes they are referred as junior data scientist. From sales and marketing to insurance & health care, data analyst are in demand in many industries. A bachelor’s degree in Math is the perfect preparation for this kind of work.

( Average salary – 3 to 8 lakhs)
