NEET UG 2022 Eligibility:
An applicant’s eligibility criteria are generally determined by the National Testing Agency, the NTA. It states that medical aspirants who wish to appear for the exam must satisfy the nationality criteria, age criteria, and academic criteria in order to sit for the NEET 2022.
In the last few years, the NTA has introduced many changes in the eligibility clause in terms of an alteration of the upper age limit and allowing students with biology as an additional subject to appear for NEET. Eligibility criteria are discussed in detail below. Aspirants seeking admission to the medical, dental and AYUSH courses at the undergraduate level are suggested to go through the Eligibility criteria of NEET 2022. NEET eligibility criteria 2022 will specify the age limit, academic qualifications, nationality, and other mandatory requirements, which must be met by all the aspirants.

Criteria For Nationality in NEET 2022
Candidates who are nationals from any of the following countries are eligible to apply for NEET 2022:
- Indian Nationals
- Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
- Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs)
- Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)
- Foreign Nationals
Criteria for Age Limit (Revised)
Candidates must adhere to the age limit for NEET 2022 specified by NTA:
- Candidates must have completed the age of 17 years.
- There is no upper age limit for appearing in NEET 2021. However, the candidature of those who are taking NEET 2021 and are more than 25 years of age is subject to the orders of Supreme Court.

Note: Candidates who are above the age of 25 may appear for the examination but their admission is dependent on the verdict provided by the Supreme Court.

Criteria for Academic Qualification in NEET 2021
- Students who have passed the class XII qualifying exam.
- Students who are appearing for the class XII qualifying exam.
- Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology as their subjects in Class XII.
- Class XII is the basic qualifying exam, but the qualifying marks differ according to the candidates’ category. The following persons are eligible to give the exam:

- Candidates need to fill the appropriate NEET Qualifying Examination Codes in the online application form.
- NIOS candidates and those who opted for Biology as an additional subject are now also eligible for NEET 2022.
NEET Eligibility Criteria for NRI / Foreign Students
- Candidates who have studied abroad and want admission in medical colleges in India must have passed in Chemistry, Physics, English and Biology/Biotechnology with 50% marks in Class XII and their equivalency is determined by the Association of Indian Universities as MCI regulations and the concerned university.
- This includes candidates who took the IB (International Baccalaureate)/GCSE/Advanced Placement curriculum in school.
- IB candidates in India are also eligible for NEET 2022.
Eligibility for 15% All India Quota Seats for NEET 2021
15% of the total seats are segregated as All India Quota (AIQ) seats. To take admission via AIQ, candidates need to take part in Online Counselling for NEET conducted by MCC. After 2 rounds of counseling, if any seats remain vacant under AIQ, they will be converted into State Quota seats.The merit list will have equal number of names as seats under the All India Quota, candidates will thus be allocated their seats directly. Those that will be put on the waiting list will be guided by the directions of the DGHS (Director General of Health Services).
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will now participate in 15% All India Quota Counselling and will not require the submission of a self declaration form.
Candidates who are Indian Nationals, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
For Candidates from Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh:
Candidates from J&K and Ladakh are not eligible for 15% AIQ seats as these two opted out of the All India Scheme. Therefore, to claim eligibility candidates have to submit online self-declaration. This self-declaration page will be generated automatically along with the confirmation page and must be kept for reference for the time of counseling.
Eligibility for State Quota Seats for NEET 2022
Once the All India Rank and All India Quota Merit List have been prepared, the NTA will provide all of the required information to the DGHS who will then forward it to the mandated state medical councils. The state medical councils will prepare their own merit lists for counselling on the basis of a multitude of factors such as the applicant’s eligibility on the basis of domicile requirements.
The states participating in NEET will fill the remaining 85% of their MBBS/BDS seats through state counseling as per the following norms:
- Aspirants must have completed/appeared in 10th and 12th class exam from the state.
- Candidates should have valid address proof and domicile of the state.
The following persons can apply for admission under the state quota:
- Indian Nationals
- Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
- Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs)
- Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)
- Foreign Nationals
Candidate who are foreign nationals can confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/ Dental/ Siddha/ Unani/ Ayurveda/ Homeopathy College/ State.
Admission through these seats will be subject to reservation policy and eligibility criteria prevalent in the State or Union Territory. For State counseling, candidates must contact the relevant state counseling authority for details. Deemed private universities will conduct their own counselling procedures and candidates must apply for admission on their own personal accord. Candidates who wish to take admission into AFMC must apply separately on their website since they will hold a second screening process.
For Admission in Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune
- Admission will be subject to norms specified by the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Ministry of Defence and Government of India.
- Those who have applied for NEET and seek admission in AFMC must apply on their official website as well since there will be further screening procedures.
- Contact AFMC for further assistance and details of NEET rules and regulations pertaining to the institution.

NEET 2022 Reservation Criteria
As per the reservation criteria, in the Central Universities and institutions, seats will be reserved for GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST and PwD candidates. The percentage of seats reserved for different categories is as follows:

NEET EWS Quota 2022- Details
This move came after the 124th Amendment Bill in the Constitution of India, which was passed in the January session of the Parliament. As per this, 10% reservation in jobs and education shall be granted to the EWS candidates belonging to the General quota candidates.
Who falls under the EWS category?
Persons who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs, and OBCs and whose family has a gross annual income below Rs 8 lakh are only identified as EWS for benefit of reservation. The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority.
Who can’t access the EWS quota?
Regardless of what the family income is, if the candidates fall under any of the following, they can’t avail the benefits of EWS quota:
- Candidates whose families own 5 acres of agricultural land and above.
- Candidates who owe a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. and above.
- Candidates whose parents possess a residential plot of 100 sq. yards and above in notified municipalities.
- Candidates whose parents own a residential plot of 200 sq. yards and above in areas other than the notified municipalities.
Authorities which can issue an ‘Income and Asset Certificate’
Following is the list of the competent authorities who can issue an ‘Income and Asset Certificate’:

NEET 2022 Reservation for PwD Candidates
- 5% of the seats under AIQ are reserved for Physically Handicapped candidates.
- In case the seats remain vacant due to unavailability of candidates, the seats would be included in the Annual Sanctioned Seats for the respective category.
- Eligible candidates will be required to produce Disability Certificate from one of the Disability Assessment Boards prior to their scheduled date of counselling.

Documents Required for Claiming Reservation
All the candidates claiming reservation of seats under various reserved categories should produce the relevant documents stipulated by NTA to validate their claim for seat reservation failing which, they may be debarred from counselling and seat allotment process.

Things to Remember
- All India Quota has no reservation for Defence quota candidates. However, some states may have a reservation under Defence quota in NEET. Candidates must contact their state counselling authority for details.
- Candidates must note that Deemed Universities conduct their own counselling.
- Management Quota is not applicable in AIQ but private universities may have a few seats reserved under that category. Contact the concerned institute for more details.
- Candidates are advised to check whether they’re eligible for reservation under All India quota and state quota seats before applying.
Number of attempts-
There is no limit in attempting for NEET entrance exam. Candidates are allowed to attempt as many time as possible.
