The National Testing Agency (NTA) director Vineet Joshi said that they are thinking to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) twice a year from the year 2021. The director said, "We have received lots of communications from the students and teachers across the country, and are thinking of conducting it twice a year like the JEE Main". He also added, "The planning is at the initial stage and the exam authority will proceed only after receiving approval from the Ministry of Health".
The director also stated that there will be no changes regarding the exam dates and pattern for NEET 2020. He said, "The exam schedule for NEET 2020 will remain unaffected. Even if we plan to conduct the medical entrance exam twice, it will happen only in 2021.”
Meanwhile, an official from the Ministry of Health told indianexpress.com, “It is under the consideration of the Health Ministry and we will soon take a decision.”
Recently, the Union Health Minister of India Harsh Vardhan declared that admission to all the MBBS courses in all the medical colleges across the country will be done through common entrance test i.e. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) from 2020 including JIPMER and AIIMS. So it will be effective for students if NEET will be conducted twice a year. Since all the admissions will be through NEET, if a candidate fails to crack it, his/her whole year gets wasted. So, this decision will make the aspirants feel comfortable.
