Tata steel and Manipal academy of higher education have partnered up to open a 2nd medical college in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand named Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC). The first medical college to be opened at Jamshedpur was MGM Medical College which was opened on 14 November 1961. Manipal Tata medical college starts admission in October through NEET 2020 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) with a total of 150 seats in MBBS degree. This college will bring a relation between the steel city and the medical field and will generate many jobs.
Education will be provided at Manipal Tata Medical College but clinical practice will be done at Tata Main Hospital (THM). The THM will also examine UG students. Here heart, kidney, neuro, and many other diseases will be treated. In this hospital, students will get the education from experienced doctors.
After consortium notice, Manipal Tata Medical College is the first medical college to have both private parties. Normally the partnership is done in PPP mode (Public-Private Partnership) i.e. between one public and private party to maintain responsibility. But, only after consortium notice, it has been made possible that both are private parties.
The college welcomed the Medical Council of India (MCI) to inspect after completing the necessary infrastructure in July 2019. The MCI inspected the college and its infrastructure 2 times. After this only, the MCI issued the Letter of Permission (LOP). According to the Medical Council of India Act (MCIA) Section 10 A, the first academic classes of this college will begin from 2020-21.
