Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) is conducted jointly by several premier research institutes in the country. JEST 2021 is conducted to offer admission to aspirants in Ph.D. / Integrated Ph.D. courses offered in courses such as Physics, Theoretical Computer Science, Neuroscience, and Computational Biology. The JEST 2021 score will be valid for a one-year duration only. There is no cap on taking the JEST exam, aspirants can appear for it any number of times. Aspirants are informed that securing a rank in JEST does not confirm admission in any college accepting the exam scores for admission. After qualifying the JEST exam, candidates need to fulfill the eligibility criteria as listed by individual colleges. JEST is considered to be a National Eligibility Test (NET) by the Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB). Aspirants who are seeking admission in Ph.D. or Integrated Ph.D. programs in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science or Neuroscience or Computational Biology need to give the JEST exam.

JEST 2021 Admit Card:

Those candidates who've successfully submitted their application forms will be able to download their admit cards by visiting the official website of JEST 2021. The candidates should take a printout of the admit card for the entrance exam and further use. The admit a card is a mandatory object for the entrance exam. No candidates will be allowed to appear in the entrance exam without the admit card. Note that, the admit card will not be sent to candidates via post or any other medium.

JEST 2021 Cut Off:

  • JEST cut off marks will publish on the official website and the applicants can check it through online mode. After the result declaration, the cut off marks will release.
  • The cut-off marks are the minimum qualifying marks, which should score by the candidates in the entrance examination. Candidates will be able to get admission on the basis of their marks scored in the examination.
  • As per the marks of the candidates, candidates will be called out for the counseling procedure. As per the previous trends, the JEST 2021 Cut off is expected to be between 20 to 25 marks.

JEST 2021 Application Form:

The candidates who are interested in applying for the entrance exam can get the application form by visiting the official website of JEST 2021. The entrance exam is scheduled to be conducted on the 11th of April. The application form for JEST 2021 can be submitted online only on the official website of the science entrance exam. Candidates cannot submit an offline application form for the Joint Entrance Screening Test under any circumstance.

Steps to Fill JEST 2021 Application Form

Step 1: Create a Registration ID

In order to fill the JEST 2021 application form aspirants need to provide their Email ID, password, name, and date of birth. Once, these details are provided, candidates will receive an email containing account information after registering with a valid email-ID. This email would also contain a verification link.

Step 2: Fill Details in JEST Application Form
After candidates verify their email ID, they are led to the application form for the JEST exam. Information that candidates need to provide in the JEST application form is as mentioned below:

  • Candidate’s name

  • Date of birth details

  • Alternate mobile number

  • Gender

  • Qualifying exam

  • Year of passing

  • Address

  • Program preference

  • College preference

  • Test center preference

  • Educational qualification

  • Details of parents/guardians

Step 3: Upload Important Documents

Aspirants need to upload scanned copies of their photograph and signature with their Joint Entrance Screening Test application form.

The official JEST website also informs: “Before uploading your photo and signature files, make sure you have given it a good name.  File names should use alphabets, underscores, and numbers only.  Special characters such as spaces, (, #, &, punctuation, etc., should not be used in filenames.  If you use a logical naming system, like loginname_date_photo.jpg, loginname_date_sig.jpg then it will be printed without any errors. In case the jpeg file of your photo which has been taken with camera exceeds the limit, you should compress the file size using compression software available on the websites, such as http://jpeg-optimizer.com, http://www.imageoptimizer.net. Your signature can be scanned with a digital scanner and saved as a jpeg file for uploading. In case this file size produced by scanner also exceeds 100 kB limit, you can compress it using the same tools as explained above”.

Step 4: Pay JEST Application Fee

Aspirants can pay the application fees for the JEST exam online by means of Debit card/Credit card and Net-banking. Any other payment mode would not be accepted.

Step 5: Submit & Print JEST Application Form

After the candidate completes all the above-mentioned steps they need to click on the ‘Submit’ button to complete the registration process for the JEST exam. Once candidates successfully submit their registration form online they will receive an email on their registered email address containing their “application data after final submission containing Unique Submission Number and filled in data”, informs the official website. Aspirants are advised to download and keep this information safely for future reference. In a scenario wherein candidates do not receive such an email notification after submission of the JEST application form and completing the e-payment of the JEST application fee then they need to contact JEST authorities and inform the same immediately.

Candidates are informed that the application fee for JEST 2021 can only be paid only through Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net-banking. Aspirants can also pay the JEST application fee through SBI Epay. Aspirants can go through category-wise JEST application fee in the table mentioned below:

JEST 2021 Counselling:

After the publication of results, the counseling process will begin. There is no centralized counseling system for admission. The applicants who have qualified in the exam will be invited by the institutions for interviews. 
The JEST counseling procedure will be conducted for those candidates who have scored qualified marks in the examination of JEST, they will be able to attend the counseling procedure and through this procedure and interview, candidates will get admission in the Ph.D./Integrated Ph.D. programs. On the schedule and notification through authority, the candidates have to reach the counseling center and it is necessary for the candidates.

The result for JEST 2021 (physics) has been declared by the conducting authorities, SERB. The result is available for the candidates on the official website of JEST. Note that, the result will not be sent to the candidates via post or any other medium.  The result for JEST 2021 will be valid for 1 year only.

As part of the result, aspirants will also be issued a JEST scorecard. Candidates are advised to keep the print of their JEST results and scorecard securely with themselves. JEST score is valid for a duration of a year from the date of declaration of the result.

The answer key for the JEST 2021 entrance exam will be released by the authorities on the official website. To calculate the Joint Entrance Screening Test score using the answer key, candidates can follow the steps below:

  • Then, cross-check each answer in the key with what you marked in the exam.
  • For every correct answer, add marks. For each incorrect answer, deduct marks. Add and deduct marks as per the marking scheme below.
  • The total marks after adding and deducting is your probable score.

M.Sc. / M.E. / M.Tech. In Computer Science and related disciplines and should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.

Ph.D. in Computational Biology at IMSc

At NISER, B.Sc. (Physics) Or B.E. /B. Tech in Engineering Physics, with a minimum of first-class marks, will be the minimum qualification.

For admission to IIA, the qualification required is B.Sc. (Physics/Mathematics)/B.E./B.Tech. In Electrical/Instrumentation/Engineering Physics/Electronics and Communications/ Computer, Science and Engineering/Optics and Photonics will be considered.
