UCEED 2021 Registration (Extended): Application Form, Exam Date

IIT Bombay has extended the registration deadline of UCEED 2021 (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design) till 31st October (From 10th October). The registration last date with late fees of Rs 500 is also extended till 7th November (From 17th October). 

Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is an entrance exam for admission in Bachelor of Design at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIITDM Jabalpur. Aspirants looking to secure admission in the Bachelor of Degree programme (B.Des) need to appear for the UCEED exam. Every year, it is conducted by the IIT Bombay under the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee.

UCEED is a descriptive test to inspect the logical, creative, observation, and drawing skills of the students for the programmes like Product Design, Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation Graphic, Vehicle Design, and Mobility.

UCEED 2021 Schedule:

The official schedule of UCEED 2021 has been released by the conducting authority of the examination. The schedule contains the complete details of the important dates of application, examination, result, and counselling. It is very important for the students to check the complete schedule so that there would be no confusion in dates and avoid any kind of last-minute hassle. The Registration window was extended till the 20th of November to help the aspirants. The Entrance Examination is scheduled to be held on 17th January 2021. UCEED 2021 Admit Card:

The admit card for UCEED 2021 will be available only for those candidates who have successfully Registered/Submitted the Application Form. The candidates will be able to access the admit card by visiting the official website. The admit card will be available until the 19th of January. It is a mandatory object for the exam. No candidates will be allowed to appear in the exam without the admit card. The candidates are advised to take more than one print out of the admit card for the entrance exam. The admit card should be produced at the exam hall upon demand. There are certain details that are mentioned in the Admit card/Hall Ticket like the Test Ticket Number/Admit Card Number, Test Date, Test Center Timings, Candidate's Name as mentioned in the Application Form, and many other details.  If there is any error in the admit card then the student should report a complaint regarding the same to the Conducting authority of the UCEED Examination i.e. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai. Once the complaint is registered the Conducting authority will send the revised Admit card to the candidate through registered email id. (given during the time of registration). It is mandatory for the Candidate has to appear for the exam along with the admit card, without the admit card/hall ticket, no student will be allowed to attain the exam.

Step 3: Enter the Login Credentials like the Registration number and the date of birth.

Step 4: The Admit card/Hall ticket will be Displayed on the Screen.

UCEED 2021 Syllabus:

Syllabus of UCEED 2021 is always published along with the examination brochure on the official website of UCEED. Students can download the official brochure to know the detailed syllabus of the examination like the chapters of different subjects that will be asked in the exam questionnaire. The syllabus consist of all the detailed elaboration of important subjects that will asked in the Entrance Examination. Visualization and spatial ability:

Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test: understanding of transformation and/or manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships; knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts.

Observation and design sensitivity:

Ability to detect concealed properties in ordinary things, people, situations, and events, and thinking critically about them. Applying attention to certain details, analyzing, reasoning, classifying, inferring and predicting. Ability to discern subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.

Environmental and social awareness:

General awareness of environmental factors such as climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, natural resources, etc., and their implications on the design of products, images, infrastructure, and environment. Awareness of social and cultural connection with the design, history of the designed artifact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. History of art, sculpture, and literature.

Analytical and logical reasoning:

Ability to look at information, be it qualitative or quantitative in nature, and discern patterns within the information. Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria. Ability to check for hidden bias or hidden assumptions and whether evidence and argument support conclusions. Ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question. Data Interpretation, brainteasers, and patterns.

Language and creativity:

Ability to understand and use Standard English. Reading comprehension, knowledge of English grammar such as sentence structure and usage, the use of tenses, verb patterns, articles, and active and passive constructions, etc. & vocabulary skills. Ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives, the ability to distinguish innovative options and think out of the box.

Design thinking and problem-solving:

Ability to use visual analogies, metaphors, signs, and symbols. Ability to understand complexity identifies the problem, generate alternatives, evaluate options and select solutions.

UCEED 2021 Exam Pattern:

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay released the new exam pattern of UCEED 2021 on September 9, 2020. As per the UCEED 2021 exam pattern, the exam will be conducted in computer-based mode. UCEED 2021 exam pattern will include the duration of the exam, the total number of questions that will be asked. The language of UCEED question paper is also mentioned in the UCEED exam pattern and it will be conducted in English. IIT Bombay will conduct the national-level UCEED 2021 exam for those candidates who want to take admission in bachelor of design Programme.

SECTION A:

Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions

For these questions, an answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard on the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks. There are NO NEGATIVE marks for this section. Questions not attempted will be given zero marks.

SECTION B:

Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)

Each MSQ has one or more correct answer(s) out of the four given choices. The candidate gets 4 marks only if ALL the correct choices and NO wrong choices are selected. There are NO NEGATIVE or PARTIAL marks for this section. Questions not attempted will be given zero marks.

SECTION C:

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)

Each MCQ has four choices out of which only one is the correct answer. There is a NEGATIVE marking for this section. Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks and each wrong answer will be awarded –1 (minus one) mark. Questions not attempted will be given zero marks.

Drawing Section:

This section has a question related to Drawing. Drawing skills of candidates are evaluated in this section of the exam. Part B of UCEED exam comprises of a subjective question. Questions in this section of the exam are displayed on a computer screen and aspirants need to draw/ write their reponses in an answer sheet that is provided to them by the invigilator.

UCEED 2021 Cut off:

UCEED cutoffs are released on the official website of the design entrance examination. IIT Bombay will release the cutoffs for UCEED 2021 exam online. Candidates can view UCEED cutoffs by clicking on the tab –Admission List for UCEED.

UCEED rank list will be prepared basis total marks scored by candidates in Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). IIT Bombay officials release a single rank list for the exam but category-wise UCEED cutoffs are mentioned in the exam’s rank list. The official UCEED website informs: “Only candidates who score the minimum prescribed marks in each section of the question paper and minimum total marks will be included in the rank list. The minimum prescribed marks vary with the category. The official website informs: “the UCEED Committee reserves the right to decrease the minimum percentage of marks in each section as well as the minimum total marks such that 10×N ranks can be announced, where N is the total number of available seats”.

UCEED Cutoff Declaration Process

Candidates who will qualify UCEED 2021 exam are awarded an overall and category-wise rank (if applicable). UCEED rank list is prepared by IIT Bombay on the basis of marks secured by candidates in the written entrance exam. Only candidates who score the minimum prescribed marks (mentioned in the table below) in each section of the paper and minimum total marks are included in the rank list.
However, not all candidates who will make it to the rank list will be granted BDes admissions. Qualifying candidates will have to participate in UCEED counselling. Total three seat allotment/ counselling rounds will be conducted by IIT Bombay. UCEED cutoff 2021 will contain opening and closing ranks of candidates shortlisted for different rounds of seat allocation process

UCEED 2021 Application Form:

IIT Bombay has released the application form of UCEED 2021 (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design) on 9 September. Candidates can apply for the exam till 24th October (without late fee). The candidates interested in the entrance exam are advised to visit the official website and before filling up the application form candidate should check the Eligibility Criteria required. Its is advised that before filling up the form, the candidates should keep all their documents with them. Candidates should also check the Schedule to not miss any important dates of Downloading Admit Card, Answer keys, Scorecard/Result etc. After Registering successfully candidates are advised to Print and keep the Application form for future use in Counselling Rounds. Its also advised that the candidates should check the Exam pattern before preparing for the Entrance Examination. The application will have to be submitted in four steps which are, Registration, Application fill up, Document Uploading, Fee payment.

Documents Required at the time of Registration:

Aspirants must have the  list of important documents that they need to have while filling the application form for the design entrance exam.

Steps to Apply:

Step 1: Register for UCEED Exam
In order to register for the exam, aspirants need to first of all visit UCEED’s official website and create their login credentials. The registration ID is created once candidates provide details such as their name, mobile number, date of birth and email ID. As soon as aspirants provide these details they will receive an email from IIT Bombay on their registered email ID which will contain the candidate’s application number and password. The same details will also be sent on the candidate’s registered mobile number.
Step 2: Fill Personal Details 
Once candidates successfully create their registration ID, they need to again visit the official website of the exam. Thereafter, aspirants need to enter their application number and password in the space provided. A form will open in which the fields related to the information provided by them at the time of creating the Registration ID are already filled. After this, candidate needs to fill all the below-mentioned details in their UCEED application form:
  1. Parent's name 
  2. Correspondance address
  3. Birth category
  4. Alternative email id
  5. Gender
  6. Nationality
  7. Alternative Mobile Number.
Step 3: Provide Information regarding Educational Qualification
Next, candidates need to provide their education-related details such as:

UCEED 2021 Counseling:

After UCEED result is announced, candidates can download their UCEED scorecard from the official website of the exam. The scorecard of UCEED Exam consists of the candidate’s name, roll number, score and UCEED rank. Aspirants who find a place for themselves in UCEED 2020 merit list need to fill a common BDes course application form. The joint Seat Allocation process is conducted to offer admission to aspirants in B.Des course basis their UCEED 2020 ranks. UCEED 2021 Eligibility Criteria:

The UCEED 2021 eligibility criteria are prescribed by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) which is also conducting body of the examination. Candidates who are aspiring for UCEED exam 2021 will have to check the detailed eligibility norms or criteria of the exam so that it will help them to figure out whether they are eligible for the entrance exam or not. Candidates of UCEED 2021 will have to check the details of the eligibility criteria before submitting the online application form. The eligibility criteria of UCEED 2020 mentions about the age criteria, qualification and how many times candidates can appear for the entrance examination. If is found that any candidate is not able to fulfill the eligibility criteria then the Registration/Application form of the candidate will be cancelled and the registration amount will be also not refunded. Through UCEED 2020, candidates will be given admission into the B.Des. programmes.

Both Indian, as well as foreign nationals, can apply for UCEED 2021.

1. The candidate should have been born on or after 01st October 1999 if belonging to the GEN or OBC-NCL category and on or after 01st October 1994 if belonging to the SC/ST or PWD Category 

2. A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years; note that UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the corresponding academic year 

3. The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2019, OR appearing in 2021. Students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible to sit in this exam.

4. Aspirants who are from the Science Stream and have studied subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are eligible to apply for admission at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and IIITDM Jabalpur. Candidates from any other stream (Science without Maths or Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) can apply for admission at only IIT Bombay and IIITDM Jabalpur.

UCEED 2021 FAQ's:

Q: Are there any books that I can study to prepare for UCEED?
A: UCEED is a design aptitude test. Aptitude tests assume that individuals have inherent strengths and weaknesses, and are naturally inclined toward success or failure in certain areas based on their inherent characteristics. Except for the syllabus section 'Environmental and social awareness' which will test your general awareness of the topics outlined under it, the remaining five sections will test your aptitude. Consequently, there are no text or reference books that we can recommend.

Q: I appeared for UCEED 2019 but did not qualify. Can I appear for UCEED 2021?
A: Yes, you can, provided you meet the age and year of passing qualification certificate criteria as mentioned here. However, do note that a candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times only and that too in consecutive years and that the UCEED score is valid only for admissions in the corresponding academic year.

Q: I do not have a birth certificate for proof of date of birth. What should I do?
