Food Technology : Job Prospects,Top Colleges and Recruiters

Food technology is a branch of science in which food science is applied in manufacturing and preservation of food products. The food technologists study the chemical, physical and microbiological makeup of the food. The food is processed, preserved, packaged and stored according to the specifications by industry and government. The research and development in food technology have resulted in the production of safe and nutritious foods. The application of food science helps in manufacturing safe, wholesome and nutritious food products. The study of food technology is to develop new methods and systems for keeping food products safe and resistant to natural harms such as bacteria and other micro-organisms. Food processing helps in preservation enhances the flavor and reduces the toxins in the food product which results in better distributional efficiency and easy marketing of the food product.  The food processing industries manufacture a large variety of food products. They include primary foods like rice and wheat products, oil, sugar, and pulses. They are processed to convert into edible form.
The modern food processing techniques are the key to flourishing supermarkets we have today. Extra nutrients can be added while processing the food and processed food is less susceptible to spoilage. Some of the techniques used are spray drying, juice concentrates, freeze drying and the introduction of artificial sweeteners, colorants, and preservatives. Of late, many products such as dried instant soups, reconstituted fruits, and juices, and self-cooking meals were developed for the convenience of working people. Food technology courses can be a good career option. There is an increasing scope of food technology courses in India.
