Skills Required
Anesthesiologists/Anaesthetists are extensively trained medical doctors who specialise in Anaesthesia Technology. They administer pain medication or anaesthesia to patients before, during and post surgeries or other crucial medical procedures. Students who are ambitious to become anaesthesia specialists must have the following set of skills along with the good academic record.
- Ability to prioritise work and manage workload including the ability to work under pressure
- The ability to work efficiently as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Ability to explain complex ideas easily, and using logic/reasoning to identify the strengths/weaknesses of alternative solutions
- Considering the related costs/benefits of potential actions and selecting the right one
- Giving full attention to what others are conveying, taking time in understanding the points stated, asking queries as apt, and avoiding untimely interruptions
- Watching dials, gauges, and other indicators to ensure the medical machines are working properly.
- The ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure
