All India Institute of Medical Science Bhubaneswar Set Up 206-Bed Isolation Facility for COVID-19. Now along with 206-bed having isolation facility and 20 ventilators are on standby. where age order placed for another 40 ventilators and 150 more beds. The premier health institution has also started conducting COVID tests free of cost.
Director of the institute Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane said the institute is in complete readiness to tackle coronavirus cases. The AYUSH complex, which is separated from the main hospital building, has 20 isolation beds with 10 ventilators. Besides the 36 private cabins, the entire J Block with 150 beds has been kept ready,
Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane informed "We have ordered 40 more ventilators that are expected to reach us by end of next month. We have sufficient medical consumables and testing lits to deal with the crisis. Standard operating guidelines have also been prepared for doctors and employees, who will be coming in contact with patients"
Director of the institute Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane also said" "A COVID screening OPD has been opened where suspects are advised to take necessary steps. After screening, a decision on tests are being taken as per protocol. We have decided to start telemedicine services in the next couple of days for patients who can consult doctors through the digital platform. This would prevent patients from traveling from far off places,"
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar is one of the apex healthcare Institutes established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY). Under this scheme, six new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have been established at Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, and Rishikesh apart from the one at New Delhi. In his Independence Day Speech on August 15, 2003, then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajapayee announced opening up of 6 AIIMS Hospitals at Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur and Rishikesh under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) launched for up-gradation of medicare facilities in underserved areas of the country besides providing quality medical education in super-specialty disciplines in these areas.
