IIT kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIM Indore, IIM Ahmedabad and several University such as Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Hidayatullah National Law University chose to suspend classes due to Coronavirus by Government of India.
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infections has risen to 75 including one death in Karnataka. The World Health Organisation has declared a coronavirus pandemic.
The IIT Kanpur also announced on Friday that it has “decided to extend the mid-semester recess (suspending all classes and exams)” till Sunday, March 29, 2020. "All the students who have gone home and are planning to return to the campus in the next few days are advised not to return to the campus", says a note from the director, Abhay Karandikar.
The Indian government on Friday asked all its 51,000 colleges and universities to avoid large gatherings in their campuses and carry out a massive sanitation exercise to guard against COVID-19, also referred to as novel coronavirus.
