NIFT is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resource to the textile and apparel industry. It was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament with the President of India as ‘Visitor’. The NIFT Srinagar campus is located in the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. NIFT Srinagar campus working from 2016 at temporary campus building in SIDCO electronic complex, Rangreth Srinagar. NIFT Srinagar's permanent campus is under construction in Budgam, this campus will be operational in 2020. This campus have space for Academic Block, Administrative Block, Auditorium, Residential quarters and design studio.
