Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), Gujarat was established in 1979. The need for such an institution was conceptualized by Dr. Verghese Kurien. The purpose of the program is to create professional managers to work with organizations and partner with people for equitable socio-economic development of rural India. As a top-ranked school of rural management, IRMA provides more than just a degree in rural management; it widens the career path of its participants while imparting a view of the rural space which is both holistic and insightful. IRMA educates those inspired to work with organizations of rural people, organizations serving rural people and directly with rural communities at large. They also conduct research on issues affecting the rural-issues affecting rural producers' organizations, organizations working in villages and the rural economy and society.
