1. Candidates who have completed their 12th(Science) Standard in 2019.
2. Candidates who are expecting to complete their12th(Science) Standard in 2020 are also eligible to apply.
3. The candidates must have secured 60% or equivalent grade (relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates) 12th(Science)Standard examination.
3. The candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects during their 12th(Science) Standard.
5. Candidates who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science,etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply.

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science. this exam is held in the first week in the month of November. The selection process of IIS for KVPY is of following types
SA: Students studying in 11th with science subjects come under the SA stream of KVPY.
SX: 12th class science students will have to appear under SX stream
SB: Candidates enrolled in the 1st year of an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences during the exam year will go under SB stream
Selection through KVPY-SA [appeared in 2018 and selected for the Fellowship], KVPY-SB [appeared in 2019 and selected for the Fellowship], KVPY-SX [appeared in 2019 and selected for the Fellowship], KVPY-SA[appeared in 2018] and SX[appeared in 2019] Fellows selected through the Empowerment Initiative for SC/ST candidates.
JEE Main is also the qualifying test for appearing in JEE Advanced which is the entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate programs offered by all the IITs present in India. The selection will be based on the appearing in 2020 and securing a minimum of marks for applying is 60% (GN), 54 % (EWS), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PwD)
