What is GATE Normalisation?
The GATE exam is held in both single and multi-session for a few papers. This is because such papers have a large number of aspirants. Due to this, the conducting body has to use the process of normalization to ensure unbiased results in multi-session GATE paper.
The process of normalization in GATE is based on the assumption that the ability of candidates is equally distributed across all sections in a multi-session exam. It is the responsibility of the exam conducting body (IIT Kanpur for GATE 2023) to ensure that the number of candidates in each session is of the same magnitude. The process of normalizations will be different for single and multi-session exams. The raw marks of a single session will be used to compute a candidate's GATE score whereas, the marks in the multi-session exam will be normalized and then used to compute the final GATE score.
