The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has asked the director of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to submit recommendations on holding the JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination) and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). The ministry has asked the agency to submit by 3rd July 2020 as to postpone the exam further or not.
As per the ongoing schedule, NTA will conduct JEE Main from 18 - 23 July and NEET on 26 July 2020.
HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has tweeted, "Looking at the prevailing circumstances & requests received from students & parents appearing for #JEE & #NEET examinations, a committee consisting of @DG_NTA & other experts has been advised to review the situation & submit its recommendations to HRDMinistry latest by tomorrow.”
The students and parents are concerned about the rising number of COVID cases in India and don't want to risk lives. As over 15 lakh students have applied for JEE Main and NEET, there is a huge concern of safety and many rules should be followed at the exam centres such as social distancing. The IITS do not support the cancellation of JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Also, there are many students who want the exam to be postponed and not canceled, which is a point to take into consideration.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has canceled all its class 10 and 12 exams. The Board has also decided to release the result on the basis of an assessment scheme that was submitted to the Supreme Court and has been approved. It is now only a matter of time that will say about the postponement of JEE Main and NEET 2020.
