Rejection of government’s proposal to change IIT-JEE (Advanced) exam pattern

On the 52nd Meeting of the Council of IITs held on Monday in Delhi, the IITs rejected the proposal of the government to set up a member of committee to make any changes in JEE Advanced exams. The Council decided that there is no need for a separate committee. The IITs argued that now JEE advanced has become an important brand and any decision to change its pattern should not be done at the moment. They also rejected another proposal that students qualifying JEE (Advanced) should be allocated only an institute and not the engineering branch in the first year. The IIT Council also declared that the IITs will be free to fee for foreign students for the postgraduate programmes.

The council also rejected the proposal to scrap BTech courses and make the premiere institution mentor other engineering colleges. A Committee comprising of Directors of IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Tirupati has been constituted to improve the quality and standard of engineering education in the country and to recommend standards and norms for construction of campuses and infrastructure projects in IITs.
