NEET UG

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET-UG is an entrance examination in India, for students who wish to study any graduate medical course (MBBS), dental course (BDS) or postgraduate course (MD / MS) in government or private medical colleges in India. NEET-UG replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and all individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges themselves in 2013. 

NEET 2019 Exam Dates has been released. From 2019 onwards the National Testing Agency is the newly-appointed governed body of the NEET exam and the exam has been proposed to be conducted twice in a year (February and May). NEET 2019 will be conducted on 3rd February to 17th February 2019 (Feb exam) and 12th May to 26th May 2019 (May Exam). 

Undergraduate courses at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research JIPMER are outside the NEET’s purview, as these institutes were set up by separate laws.

NEET Exam 2019 Eligibility

Nationality -

  • A candidate should be a citizen of India.
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons with Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs) and Foreign Nationals are also eligible.
  • Candidates from J & K state are eligible for 15% AIQ seats only on the basis of self-declaration.

Educational Qualifications -

  • A candidate should have qualified 12th from any recognized University or Board with a combination of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Biotechnology.
  • general candidate should have scored a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology to become eligible for the exam. A physically handicapped person of general category needs to have a minimum aggregate score of 45%.
  •  SC/ST/OBC candidate are required to have scored a minimum 40% in aggregate to become eligible for the exam.

Age Limit -

  • Candidates should have, at least, 17 years of age.The maximum age limit is 25 years. A relaxation of 5 years is applicable for the candidates belonging to OBC/SC/ST categories.

 

New Changes for aspirants who are planning to study medicine in abroad :

As per the public notice released by MCI, any Indian student who is planning to take admission in a medical university outside India on or after June 1, 2018, is required to apply for and qualify in the NEET 2018 examination. Accordingly, the MCI vide its public notice dated March 8, 2018, has dispensed of the requirement of eligibility certificate for candidates planning to study medicine abroad. As per the notice, also available on the official website of CBSE NEET 2018 examination, the qualification of NEET 2018 would now double up as an eligibility certificate. 

Eligibility for seats under the control of States/Universities/Institutions/ AFMC/Central Pool Quota:

  • Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Oversees Citizen of India (OCIs) & Foreign Nationals will be eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institution and the Government of India. These aspirants are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
  • Foreign nationals can confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dentals college/state.

Candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K

  • Students from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K are NOT ELIGIBLE for 15% all India quota seats as these states had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility, they must submit online self-declaration which will be generated and printed automatically along with confirmation page for the record and to present during counselling.
  • The online Self Declaration of the candidates will be verified at the time of counselling and if found to be false at any time, the candidature/admission of such candidates shall be cancelled and criminal proceedings may be initiated against them.
  • Candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K can appear in NEET (UG) for admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune subject to the fulfilment of eligibility conditions.
