Course Details


The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET-UG is an entrance examination in India, for students who wish to study any graduate medical course (MBBS), dental course (BDS) or postgraduate course (MD / MS) in government or private medical colleges in India. NEET-UG (Undergraduate), for MBBS and BDS courses, are conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). NEET-UG replaced the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and all individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges themselves in 2013.  

Undergraduate courses at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research JIPMER are outside the NEET’s purview, as these institutes were set up by separate laws.

NEET UG 2018

NEET UG 2018 exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 6, 2018.

Eligibility Criteria:

Students who have appeared or would be appearing in their Class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Also, the minimum age requirement for appearing in NEET is 17 years as on 31.12.2018.The upper age limit, as per the notification is 25 years as on the date of examination. A relaxation of 5 years for aspirants belonging to OBC/SC/ST category will be given.

Also, please note that a maximum of 3 attempts would be allowed to candidates to appear in NEET. NEET 2017 was considered as the first attempt. Students who fulfill the criteria as mentioned can appear for NEET 2018. For candidates who appeared in 2017 and are planning to re-appear, NEET 2019 would be the last attempt.

Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Oversees Citizen of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) & Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear in NEET (UG)-2018.

Note regarding Aadhaar Card:

In addition to Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrollment No., the candidates may fill the application form by mentioning alternative Identification Number such as Ration Card, Passport, Bank Account No. or other valid Government ID (such as Driving License, Voter ID etc.).

New Changes for aspirants who are planning to study medicine in abroad :

As per the public notice released by MCI, any Indian student who is planning to take admission in a medical university outside India on or after June 1, 2018, is required to apply for and qualify in the NEET 2018 examination. Accordingly, the MCI vide its public notice dated March 8, 2018, has dispensed of the requirement of eligibility certificate for candidates planning to study medicine abroad. As per the notice, also available on the official website of CBSE NEET 2018 examination, the qualification of NEET 2018 would now double up as an eligibility certificate. 

Eligibility for seats under the control of States/Universities/Institutions/ AFMC/Central Pool Quota:

  • Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Oversees Citizen of India (OCIs) & Foreign Nationals will be eligible for admission in Medical/Dental Colleges subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments, Institution and the Government of India. These aspirants are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
  • Foreign nationals can confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dentals college/state.

Candidates from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K

  • Students from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K are NOT ELIGIBLE for 15% all India quota seats as these states had opted out of All India Scheme since its inception. If they claim eligibility, they must submit online self-declaration which will be generated and printed automatically along with confirmation page for the record and to present during counselling.
  • The online Self Declaration of the candidates will be verified at the time of counselling and if found to be false at any time, the candidature/admission of such candidates shall be cancelled and criminal proceedings may be initiated against them.
  • Candidates from the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K can appear in NEET (UG) for admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune subject to the fulfilment of eligibility conditions.

Exam Pattern:

The exam covers the topics from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.

The duration of the paper is 3 hours. Each correct answer attracts 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. For every unanswered question, marks are neither be awarded nor be deducted.
