Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of conditions and disease involving the central and peripheral nervous systems including their coverings, blood vessels, and all effector tissues, such as muscle. Neurological practice relies heavily on the field of neuroscience, which is the scientific study of the nervous system. The word “Neurology” is derives from the Greek word “neuron” means “nerve” and “logia” means “study of”. Neurologists are physicians and surgeons who treat patients with nervous system disorders, including problems with the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Neurologists who deal with surgical procedures are known as Neurosurgeons. Neurosurgeons are medical doctors who specialize in performing surgical treatments of the brain or nervous system. Neuro-medicine is a field of practice in hospital where neurosurgeons, neurologists, and other medical professionals work as a team to provide care for the patients suffering from neurological disorder.

In India the scope of neurology is increasing as the number of patients increasing. This is due to the expected higher rate of occurrence of clinical conditions typically associated with age. As people get older they encounter increasing incidences of stroke and neuro-degenerative diseases, resulting into greater demand for neurologists. Ongoing research in the field is providing these physicians with more resources and scopes. One can do the job in abroad in various universities and research centres too.
