Accessory Designing

An Accessory Designer creates accessories with all of the small details that complete a fashionable outfit such as hats, jewellery, scarves, belts handbags and watches. Jewellery and leather designing are a part of accessory designing. Fashion is increasingly becoming an all-rounder impact with more than just the clothes to give a trendy look. Accessory Designers have the freedom to work by using their creativity with a variety of materials, from metals to leather and beads to satin while. Skills required to be a good Accessory Designer are- creativity and originality, artistic skills, an eye for detail, fashion knowledge, knowledge of raw materials, patience, good communication, visualization skills, precision.

Fashion accessories can be categorized into two general areas: those that are carried and those that are worn. Traditional carried accessories include purses and handbags, hand fans, parasols and umbrellas, canes, and ceremonial swords. Accessories that are worn may include jackets, boots and shoes, cravats, ties, hats, bonnets, belts and suspenders, gloves, muffs, jewelry, watches, sashes, shawls, scarves, socks, and stockings & etc.



Accessory Designing courses are available at Certificate, Diploma, Graduate and Post-Graduate levels. Eligibility for Under Graduate courses is 12th pass with any stream and eligibility for Post Graduate courses require a BA degree in any subject. Along with that to study in reputed institutions one needs to qualify the national level entrance exams or the entrance exams conducted by the concerned institutions.

The scope of designing accessories is endless due to the versatility of the options in accessories and the increase in popularity of accessories. A person can design anything from jewellery to shoes and is not limited to the use of only one medium. Indian ethnic accessories have a strong market both in India and internationally.
