NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), Bhubaneswar and Indonesia to collaboratively promote and popularise sustainable fashion. Mangku Pastika the former governor of Bali and president of World Hindu Parished visited National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhubaneswar recently and explored possibilities for collaboration to promote sustainable fashion and the age-old tradition of handloom.
The Indonesian leader sees the NIFT Bhubaneswar have great potential to renew the historic ties between the two places. Both of them have a common ground to play on, the finest culture and traditions through handloom, specifically Ikat. This common connection in heritage can sustain and survive with re-established ties between The Odisha/Kalinga and Indonesia, stated Mangku Pastika. What can be a better option than promoting heritage items of handicrafts and Ikat handloom that both of us make, Pastika added.

Mangku Pastika also suggested setting up Indonesian centres in the NIFT campus to carry on promotional activities including discussion, debate and research on their historical ties through sustainable fashion.
“The presences of Aal Tree in the NIFT campus yielding red dye also took the Indonesian delegates by surprise. Since the red dye is widely used in Bali of Indonesia and Kotpad in Odisha, it formed a great testimonial to our historical and cultural connection, accepted Binay Bhushan Jena, director of NIFT Bhubaneswar.
The NIFT is now planning to build Sustainable Fashion centres in collaboration with Indonesia to promote and popularize production as well as the use of natural produced fibres and organically processed dies in the campus itself.
