Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical engineering is the branch of engineering concerned with the analysis, design and construction of foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, tunnels, levees, wharves, landfills and other systems that are made of or are supported by soil or rock.
Geotechnical engineering is the division of engineering which deals with the engineering activities of earth materials. Geotechnical engineering is a part of civil engineering, but is also used by petroleum, mining, military or any other engineering related with construction on or in the ground.
Geotechnical engineering utilizes principles of soil and rock mechanics to investigate sub-surface conditions and materials; verify the relevant chemical/mechanical and physical properties of these materials; Assess stability of natural slopes and man-made soil deposits; evaluate risks posed by site conditions; design earthworks and structure foundations; and monitor earthwork, site conditions and foundation construction. The fields of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology are intimately related, and have large areas of overlap.
 
Eligibility:-
 
UG: 4 years
 
For admission in a bachelor’s degree, the candidate must have passed the intermediate in science(10+2)  examination with science subject such as biology, math and chemistry. For IITs, It is mandatory to clears JEE - Advance. The duration for the course is 4 years.
 
PG: 2 years
 
For admission in a master’s degree, the candidate must have passed bachelor's degree in (B.E/B.Tech) or any other equivalent branches of engineering.
